Drink Me: Stash Tea, The Portland Blend

The last time I ordered from Stash Tea I was tempted by The Portland Blend.

From the website, the blend boasts coca nibs, Rose Congou black tea, natural raspberry flavor, and blue cornflower petals.

It sells in 100g size for $7.50.

When I first opened the package I could smell the cocoa and the raspberry. As it brewed I smelled more of the same.  I could definitely taste the chocolate and maybe a bit of the rose petals in the black tea. It was an interesting mix of flavors, like the packet said “eclectic and quirky, just like Portland.”  It was light and sweet – a good afternoon tea.  I don’t know if I would order it again, but it was nice to try.

Keep your tea and knitting close.

Last week a friend sent me a link to this beautiful iPhone case.

What better way to carry the things you love with you than to embellish the objects you’re never without?

Perhaps this beautiful stack of teacups?

Crafty: Cozy Cozy Part II

The weather has been bitterly cold in Kansas of late, and I finally broke down and bought something I’d always wanted: a hot water bottle.

Once it arrived, I knew it would need a cozy.  A quick turn through Ravelry and I found the perfect pattern: Handspun Hottie by Laurie Claire.

Then I went diving into my bins of handspun fiber to find just the right yarn.  I found some fabulous fiber dyed by Two If By Hand that I purchased and spun in 2011!

Two short days and I had my very own hot water bottle cozy!

Drink Me: Tea Market, White Vanilla Grapefruit

I took a visiting friend to Tea Market a couple of weeks ago and couldn’t resist trying a new tea for myself. I picked up an ounce of White Vanilla Grapefruit.

The blend boasts “white teas infused with vanilla and grapefruit” and was available for $4.35 per half ounce.

When I opened the package I smelled more vanilla than grapefruit. As I brewed the tea, I definitely smelled the green tea. I was hoping for more grapefruit scent and taste, more like Adagio’s Grapefruit Oolong that I had so enjoyed.  Ultimately, I thought this tasted more like a vanilla white. It was tasty and light, but it didn’t have the citrus flavor I was looking for.

Craftea: Cozy Cozy.

Just before Christmas I decided to splurge and get myself a cheerful little ceramic teapot. I ventured out to our local tea store and picked up a Curve Teapot in a bright red.

Of course, a beautiful new teapot needed a cozy.

I started thinking I wanted to make the Ribbed & Ruffled Tea Cozy by Churchmouse Yarn & Teas.

Then a friend showed me the Tea Mitten pattern by Elisabeth Kleven.

I just loved that little gusset for the spout.  So I did what I have a habit of doing – I made my own pattern that was a mish-mash of the two I liked. I used a little over half a skein of Noro Silk Garden and a few buttons from stash.

I think I’m smitten!

Drink Me: Adagio, Blood Orange

This week I organized my collection of teas and found one that I had not reviewed yet: Adagio Teas Blood Orange.

This blend contains orange peels, rose hips, hibiscus, and natural orange flavor.

It is available in the following sizes: sample size for $2, 3oz for $7 and 16oz for $24.

When I opened the package, I immediately smelled the pungent and slightly bitter orange peels. As it brewed, I got more of the sweet hibiscus and rosehip smell.  The tea itself was a little sour and very orangey.  I think this would be delightful as an iced tea in the summer months.

Apparel: If I can’t take my yarn…

For the most part I knit my own sweaters, but I couldn’t resist this sweatshirt. I know my husband would testify that I say this quite often!
