Drink Me: Mrs. Kelley’s Tea, French Vanilla White Tea

A few weeks ago a reader of the blog suggested that I check out Mrs. Kelley’s Tea.  I ordered a few teas to try, the first of which is her French Vanilla White Tea.

The tea is a mix of white tea and French vanilla flavor.

It is available in a variety of sizes: 3oz for $8.50 and 8oz for $17.50.

When I opened the package all I could smell was pure vanilla. It smelled AMAZING. Once brewed I could still smell the vanilla, but it also had more of a tea aroma. There were generous sized leaves and pieces of tea in the bag.  I added a little bit of sugar and the result was a sweet dessert tea that oozed vanilla.   I suspect that this blend will be a permanent addition to my collection.

Art-tea: Rebecca Jones

I was browsing Pinterest looking for tea and knitting and I came across the tea art of Rebecca Jones. What’s not to love?

Drink Me: Churchmouse Yarn & Teas, No. 512 Winter

A few weeks ago I posted about a beautiful necklace that I wanted to purchase from Churchmouse Yarn & Teas. As long as I was placing an order I had to try some of their tea. I ordered a package of Blend No. 512, Churchmouse Winter.

Per the site, Winter is a blend of Assam, Ceylon and China Yunnan teas with a hint of summer fruit.

Winter is available in either sachets (15 for $16.50) or loose leave in 4oz for $14.00.

When I first opened the package I smelled the smoky Yunnan and a fruity smell.   Once brewed I got more of the black tea.  The tea itself was lovely – a great strong, full bodied brew with just a hint of sweetness, perfect for an afternoon cup. I highly encourage you to add a cookie to the snack while you’re at it. I will definitely be keeping this in my collection.

Crafty – Yarn Bowls

Given my love of knitting and mugs of tea, I feel a natural extension is to love yarn bowls. A yarn bowl is useful to keep your cake or ball of yarn corralled when you’re working on a project.  There are so many yarn bowls out there; these are just a few:

Starlight Knitting Society, Ceramic Yarn Bowl, $55

Furls Wooden Yarn Bowl, $29.99

Pawley Studios Yarn Bowls – Stripes, $30-$50

And finally if you want something a little more reflective of your geeky interests check out Lenny Mud’s fandom bowls. This one is my favorite:

Lenny Mud, Game of Thrones Yarn Bowl, $32.00

Drink Me: Teavana, Mulled Pomegranate Cider

Another tea I picked up on sale in my last order from Teavana was the Mulled Pomegranate Cider. I have a feeling this was a holiday tea, but it’s still cold here in January and February, and I thought I might enjoy it.

Mulled Pomegranate Cider contains cinnamon, apple pieces, hibiscus flowers, carob bits, ginger, grapes, elderberries, pomegranate seeds, black pepper, black currants, raspberries, cardamom, cloves, red currants and blueberries.

Mulled Pomegranate Cider is available for $6.99 for 2oz and $55.89 for 1lb.

When I opened the package I got a strong berry smell with a bit of the mulling spices. When it was brewed it smelled more of hibiscus and spice.  The taste was interesting – it reminded me of mulled wine with the cinnamon and spice and the darker berry flavors.  I would drink this as more of a dessert tea, and to warm up on cold nights.

Will you be my Valentine?

If you’re still looking for a gift for your Valentine, might I suggest a mug and some tea?

I was in Barnes & Noble last week and I saw these delightful mugs that would be perfect for you and your love:

Barnes & Noble, Be Mine Mug, $7.95

Barnes & Noble, I’m Yours Mug, $7.95

As for tea, I can heartily suggest David’s Tea Love Tea #7 (review here):

Two weeks ago on the podcast I got to try a sample of The Republic of Tea Downton Abbey Crawley Sisters Tea which tastes of chocolate and strawberries and was delicious.

Finally, I haven’t tried it yet, but I see that Harney & Sons has a Valentine’s Blend that includes chocolate tea and rosebuds.
