Drink Me: Tea Time Scottsdale, Raspberry Beret

Another tea my friend Liz brought me from Tea Time Scottsdale was Raspberry Beret.

From the package, Raspberry Beret is a green tea with raspberries and pink and white cornflower blossoms.

When I opened the package, I got the undeniable aroma of raspberries.  Once brewed I got more of the green tea scent.  I was a little disappointed that the raspberry flavor wasn’t stronger, because I felt it competed a little bit with the green tea. That said, it was light and would probably be delicious as an iced tea during the summer months.

Craftivism.

I generally try and keep this blog reserved for all things knitting and tea related, and steer clear of political discussion. I find it works best that way, and often I don’t see politics and knitting and tea together.  That has changed in the recent weeks.

Today the United States inaugurates a new President.  Unfortunately that new president has spent his campaign and his time as the President Elect spreading words of misogyny, bigotry and hate to a nation that is deeply divided.  When stakes are this dire, the political becomes personal.

Many people have heard  or read about the Pussyhat Project and even more are aware of the Women’s March on Washington.  I know many people who will be marching in Washington, D.C. on Saturday, and I know even more who will be marching in their home towns.  So many of us are horrified by so many things that have been happening of late and we feel like we must stand up and be heard.  And many of us knitters have needed a place to put our energy, and something to bring us together as a group.

I personally knit this pink hat a couple of weeks ago.  I knit it when I didn’t even think I’d be going to a march, but because it felt like something I needed to do for myself.

I was taken aback yesterday when I saw this beautiful collage made by the creators of Ravelry, who promote a place of tolerance and inclusivity for everyone, composed of knitters who have knit a pink hat.

I gave my pink hat away this morning to a close friend who expressed an interest in wearing one.  But since I knit that hat I have decided to go to the local march and I definitely want to wear a hat.  So I went through my stash and found a beautiful skein of handspun yarn in a pink gradient. T minus 24 hours and this lady has some work to do!

Drink Me: Tea Time Scottsdale, Apple Cinnamon Coffee Cake

Last week I got to meet up with my friend Liz and she brought me some delicious teas to try from her local tea store, Tea Time Scottsdale. I have tasted teas from them in the past, and they’re delicious, so I was looking forward to trying these.

The first blend I tried was Apple Cinnamon Coffee Cake.  From the package, it includes black tea, organic cinnamon chips, apple pieces and orange blossoms.

It appears that the online store website isn’t up right now, but I bet you could call and place a phone order if you wanted to try this one.

When I opened the package all I could smell was the lovely cinnamon smell. This tea was strong enough that once brewed, it filled my house with a delicious aroma. I could definitely taste the apples and cinnamon and it was both sweet and strong.  It was a delicious cup on a cold day. I would highly recommend!

Snug as a Mug v2

Last week I released my first paid pattern on Ravelry, Snug as a Mug, for a cozy for a Starbucks tumbler.

Of course (Murphy’s Law), as soon as I released the pattern, the Starbucks’ store page for the Stainless Steel Create Your Own Tumbler went from “out of stock” to totally gone. I had quite a few people ask me what might be a good substitute.

I ordered a few tumblers from Amazon and the one I liked the best was the Make It Your Own (MIYO) 16oz tumbler.

This tumbler is a bit shorter and wider than the Starbucks tumbler, and the bottom piece actually attaches to the stainless steel tumbler, so the cozy needs a hole in the bottom to accommodate. I’ve re-released the pattern (and sent updates to anyone who bought it before now) and included instructions for how to knit cozies for both tumblers.

Go forth and COZIFY!

And again, if you would rather #treatyoself, there are a few more in the shop!
