Craftivism Continued

These past few weeks I have found myself really struggling for what topics to write about. On one hand, I know that most of my readers come here to find information on knitting and spinning and tea.  I am still crafting, but I feel somewhat disingenuous if I just continue on as if nothing else is going on.

So today I’ll feature a few patterns, including a finished hat that I knit, that feature crafting and activism, or craftivism.

The first is a hat designed by my amazing friend Kiki Hall. Fierce Feminist is available for free on Ravelry, and in lieu of a fee Kiki asks that you make a donation to a social justice organization of your choosing.  I helped Kiki by tech editing the pattern and I offered to knit a sample to make sure it worked.  After looking at Kiki’s original hat, I ordered similar colors in Knit Picks Capra DK (Flamingo, Fuchsia, and Black), but decided to knit them in a different arrangement. I finished my hat on Monday night. It is warm, cozy and FIERCE.

Another recently released pattern is Peace de Resistance Mittens by Bristol Ivy.  Bristol is donating any profits from the sale of the mitten pattern to a variety of social justice organizations, and also offers an option where you can make a donation yourself, then send her the receipt and receive a free copy of the pattern.  The mittens call for fingering weight yarn and could be knit in any colors!
