Knit Me: Appalachian Baby Designs, Tally Ho Pullover

A while back, I had a chance to work with  Appalachian Baby Design and review their organic cotton yarn. So when the opportunity came up with work with their yarn again, I was super excited!

Appalachian Baby Designs had some adorable new kits to choose from.  I have a friend who is expecting soon, so I opted for the Tally Ho Pullover kit in Pink and Indigo.  The kit came with 1 ball each of Appalachian Baby Designs Organic Cotton (84g/194 yds/sport weight skeins) Pink and Indigo, as well as a small copy of the pattern which is written for size 12 months, all packaged in a bag. All I needed to add was needles!

Tally Ho!

The Tally Ho Pullover is knit in pieces and I found at the gauge called for I could knit one piece per night easily. The instructions were clear and easy to follow, and it took me less than a week to have a finished sweater.

I have to admit I was a little concerned that the gauge was too loose; while I was knitting the pullover looked kind of large and the seaming looked a little wonky, but as soon as I washed and dried it, the yarn bloomed beautifully. I did handwash the sweater, but I tossed it in the drier on low heat to snug it up which worked perfectly.

I do love the thoughtful details on this sweater. The striped sleeve is adorable! I had thought about making one of the front pieces blue, or adding some stripes, but I was wary of running out of yarn. The kit includes enough yarn to make the 12 month-sized sweater with just a bit to spare (I wasn’t worried I’d run out, but I didn’t have a lot leftover either), but I don’t think I could make any modifications as written.

The unique seam on the front of the sweater had directions that were pretty easy to follow. I was again a little worried that it would be too open when I was working it up, but once I dried the sweater, it looks great! What a lovely touch.

If you’re looking for a cute baby gift to knit, or a sweet kit to give as a gift itself, I’d definitely recommend this one. It’s reasonably priced, and the sweater is cozy and soft and sure to be cherished!

A special thank you to Stitchcraft Marketing and the folks at Appalachian Baby Design who sent me The Tally Ho Pullover Kit (retail: $37.00) for free. I received no other compensation for this review. All opinions and photos are my own.

  1. I am at the end of knitting this sweater and am completely stuck on how to crochet the front seam together. I am not a very advanced knitter but do manage to knit intermediate baby sweaters. Stuck in NYC in quarantine I can not go to my knitting store for help and I desperately want to finish this sweater. Can you email me with directions regarding how to crochet the seam ? Thank you.
