Knit Me: Kraemer Yarns Tatamy Tweed DK

This spring Kraemer Yarns released a new collection of patterns and was featured in Knitty magazine’s cover pattern, Opportune by Emily Ringelman.  Kraemer decided to offer reviewers their choice of Tatamy Tweed and a pattern from their collection or enough yarn to knit Opportune. I decided a summer sweater/beach coverup looked great and ordered Tatamy Tweed DK in the colorway Loganberry.

Tatamy Tweed DK is the perfect summer blend: 45% cotton/55% acrylic. It comes in 3.5 oz/100g skeins of 250 yards.

While I initially wasn’t sure I’d like knitting with a cotton/acrylic blend, once I started the project, I really liked it! The cotton was super soft and the acrylic added some give to the yarn so I my hands didn’t tire working with it. Even though the finished garment took just over 4 skeins, it doesn’t feel heavy like cotton can. The yarn was lovely to knit with and I really like the dual-toned plies with pops of tweedy color! I used my Knitter’s Pride Ginger interchangeable set to knit the sweater, and I actually liked the slightly duller tips as they didn’t split the yarn much at all.

With all my travels in June, I wasn’t sure if I’d finish my review in time, but this sweater knit up super quickly (I knit the bulk of it in just 2 weeks!) When I was done, I soaked it in a sink of cool water with a little bit of Eucalan, and then threw caution to the wind and put it in the dryer on cool air. I was thrilled with how it came out. I’m looking forward to summer of easy wear!

A special thank you to the Kraemer Yarns who sent me 5 skeins of Tatamy Tweed DK (retail: $29.50) for free. I received no other compensation for this review. All opinions and photos are my own.
