Knit Me: Brown Sheep Cotton Fine

This spring Brown Sheep Company offered reviewers their choice of Cotton Fleece or Cotton Fine. Since I’ve been digging some of the beautiful summer tee patterns that have come out recently, I decided to knit one!

I ordered Cotton Fine in the colorway New Age Teal. Cotton Fine is a great summer blend: 80% cotton/20% merino wool. It comes in 50g skeins of 220 yards/skein.

I was really curious to see what the cotton/wool blend would feel like and I was really pleased. The cotton was super soft and the wool added some give to the yarn so my hands didn’t tire working with it.

I chose to knit Breezeway by Laura Aylor, a simple top down tee with some yoke and a-line shaping, and a gentle high-low hem. I managed to knit this one up in just a bit over two weeks and while it’s hard to tell on the mannequin, it’s a lovely drapey tee that I think I’ll get a lot of use out of.

The finished garment took just under 4 skeins (hello it’s me who has trouble with row gauge), and it feels super lightweight and soft. I did find the yarn a wee bit splitty, but just had to take my time and be a little careful, particularly on the shaping rows.

Somehow I ran out of month and I wasn’t sure I’d finish this one in July, but it was a super quick knit! When I was done, I soaked it in a sink of cool water with a little bit of Eucalan, and then lay it flat to dry. I’m still thinking about soaking it again and throwing in the dryer for a bit just to see if it blooms, but I’d be remiss if I didn’t say that’s contraindicated on the label. Overall, I was excited to get to try a new-to-me yarn from a company whose products I really like!

A special thank you to the Brown Sheep Company who sent me 4 skeins of Cotton Fine (retail: $34.80) for free. I received no other compensation for this review. All opinions and photos are my own.
