Last Saturday I was idly browsing my Instagram feed and I came upon a friend’s photo of a DIY mug that she had added knitting to:
Check out my fun travel mug! I got this idea from @jpknitknot a few months ago – I bought a mug sometime in the fall, but just got around to knitting the cozy. Perfect use for leftover sock yarn! This is some of my beloved #SweaterWeather yarn from @nomadicyarns. #knitstagram #knitting #FO #stripes #nomadicyarns #knittersofinstagram #starbucks #coffee
She noted she had gotten the idea from a friend, so I went and checked out her friend’s feed and sure enough, it was a great idea!
I immediately Googled that and found the Starbucks Stainless Steel Create Your Own Tumbler for $18.99 here.
The holidays are upon us and you could make one for yourself or for a loved one. I’ve got one winging its way to me now!
With the Thanksgiving holiday, the season is set into full swing and Black Friday heralds the opening of shopping season. I wanted to pull together a few suggestions for the tea and knit lovers in your life.
At the top of my list are subscriptions for wonderful gifts that keep on giving all year long.
For the tea lover in your life, you might consider a description to the Plum Deluxe Tea of the Month club. Club memberships are done on a quarterly basis, so you can give anywhere from 3-12 months of tea to someone special in your life. Send them one tea a month for $10 per month, or double their pleasure with 2 teas a month for $20 per month. I’m a member and have been enjoying the surprise in my mailbox each month!
For the knitter in your life there are too many options to choose from!
You could check out Yarnbox.com for a variety of knitting box subscriptions. Each month your favorite knitter will receive a box with yarn, a pattern and some fun extras at his or her door. Boxes range from $19.95 to $69.95. I haven’t personally tried this one, but I’ve heard good things and see beautiful items people receive!
If you’re looking for one special gift for your special someone, advent calendars are a great idea.
I particularly love the David’s Tea Advent Calendar which is 24 days of delightful tea and can be snapped up for $40. Get this one quickly because they always sell out!
For your knitter friend check out the Opal Advent Calendar box for 24 miniskeins of colorful Opal yarn for $60. The knitter could make ornaments for his or her tree, or a wonderful pair of stripey socks!
Black Friday Tea
If you’re planning to partake in a little Black Friday shopping, I could point you in the direction of a few of my favorite black teas!
- No. 5 Winter Blend from Churchmouse Yarn and Teas, 4oz for $14.00 (review here)
- Snowflake Tea from Lana’s The Little House, 4oz for $12.00 (review here)
- Downton Christmas Blend from Republic of Tea, Tin of 36 teabags for $12.00 (review here)
And finally a few knittea related items I have seen this season:
Earlier this week a friend posted some delightful looking mugs from Stuff You Love. I had to go check it out for myself. These are my favorites!
Every so often I find a new pattern that is wonderful for tea lovers. This one came across my Instagram feed a few days ago and is by the lovely Isabelle of Fluffy Fibers. She just published the lovely My Cup of Tea Mitts.
These lovely mitts are based off of Robin Lynn’s My Cup of Tea Socks.
Now I know this blog is mostly for tea, but I must mention the new collection of coffee inspired patterns, Coffee with C.C. by C.C. Almon. Occasionally a girl needs a latte right?
I saw the following image on Instagram today, a collaboration between Jennie the Potter and Churchmouse Yarn & Teas. What could be more at the intersection of knit and tea than a tea leaf, cleverly patterned to also look like the knit stitch? Pick one up for yourself quickly because they are limited edition!
The last week or so there has been a change in the air. The days are a bit cooler, and the nights even more so, and fall is definitely around the corner. As I contemplate warm beverages to keep my hands toasty, I also think about whipping up a few cup cozies. Perhaps one of these great patterns?
Several weeks ago Hedgehog Fibres posted a photo on Instagram of her lovely new colorway, Teacup.
I was instantly smitten and had to have it. What could be more perfect for me than Teacup yarn? In fact, I ordered twice, on two different bases.
Then I started looking for the perfect shawl, that would showcase the lovely yarn. I settled on Ulmus by Kirsten Kapur and paired my lovely Teacup with a skein of yarn by Colorpurl, an MCN in Dark Cochineal Cherry.
And then I knit a lot. And some more. And then a bit more. And this past weekend I was finally done.
I still love that Teacup.
There’s nothing I love more than blueberries. Well, maybe blueberry colored yarn and blueberry tea in a beautiful blue mug?
The Tea: The Republic of Tea, Wild Blueberry
The Yarn: Unwind Yarn Company, Journey Sock in I Want it Now
The Sweater: Chicory Top by Sarah Pope, handknit by me
The Mug: Blue Drip Mug by Blueroompottery
